Just What Exactly Is Wordle?
Wordle is a web-based puzzle that requires players to guess a valid five-letter word in six tries or less. Within less than three months, more than 300,000 people had played, according to New York Times data. Josh Wardle, a software engineer in Brooklyn, created the game for just the two of them. The web-based game Wordle can be played on a desktop browser or mobile device at www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle. According to Morning Consult, 14% of Americans have said they play Wordle. Social media is the main force behind Wordle’s popularity, with 43% of those surveyed who had heard of the game first heard about it on social media.
Wordle is the latest millennial fad where you must “Guess the hidden word in 6 tries. A new puzzle is available each day”. What is the nature of this game, and why is it so popular?
What The Heck Is Wordle?
Wordle is a web-based puzzle in which participants must predict a legitimate five letter word in no more than six attempts. The colour of the tiles will change after each guess to illustrate how close your guess was to the word.
Every day, everyone is assigned the same word, which changes every 24 hours.
Wordle was invented by Josh Wardle, the game’s title, Wordle, is a play on his Josh’s last name. Josh, a software programmer in Brooklyn who knew his partner enjoyed word games and decided to make a guessing game specifically for them.
The game was released on November 1st, and more than 300,000 individuals had played it in less than three months.
Wardle stated in an interview that he believes people enjoy the fact that there is this thing online that is just so much fun.
The game isn’t attempting to do anything nefarious with your information or your eyes. This is purely a recreational game and because of this it is so refreshing.
Josh isn’t a stranger to social experiments.
According to the former Reddit software engineer, he also launched two collaborative social experiments on the site, The Button and Place, which were both popular at the time.
Where Do You Play?
Wordle’s website is straightforward, with no flashy banners or adverts, and no difficult sign-up.
You can simply go to the website and start playing.
www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/ is a web-based game that may be played on a desktop browser or a mobile device.
Wordle is gaining popularity among millennials. Wordle is estimated to be played by 14% of Americans, according to studies.
According to a research published last week, millennials are driving the most interest in the game.
Wordle is played by 26% of respondents in the generation, compared to 18% of Gen Zers, 9% of Gen Xers, and only 5% of baby boomers.
Wordle’s popularity is largely due to social media, with 43 percent of people who had heard of the game saying they first learned about it on social media.
While Wordle may appear to be the most popular game right now, polling data indicates that the new game has a long way to go before achieving the stature of other mobile games.
To put it in perspective, 52 percent of adults said they play Candy Crush and 37 percent said they play Words With Friends.
Despite this, people are still conversing and playing Wordle.

Using Two Factor Authentication For Greater Protection
Your online accounts will be less vulnerable to hackers if your passwords are more secure.
It’s not difficult for crooks to get around passwords. They could gain access to your personal information, email, financial accounts, and credit card information, among other things, if they do this.
Thanks in part to the prevalence of cellphones, two-factor authentication (2FA) and two-step verification (2SV) make your accounts substantially more secure, often without much extra work.
What Is the Purpose of Two-factor Authentication?
Because passwords aren’t always as secure as you believe they are.
Phishing, brute force assaults, data leaks, and social hacking are just a few frequent workarounds for a single layer of authentication that is prone to phishing. * (For further detail, go to Types of Password Attacks.)
Worse, if you use the same password for multiple services, you’ll be able to access them all if you crack one.Because your password alone is no longer adequate to log in to your account, two-factor authentication adds an extra degree of security.
Two-step Security Is a Common Option.
Two-step verification and two-factor authentication have been revolutionized by smartphones. They work with the majority of the most popular options and are really beneficial because most of us are always on the go.
Some methods of authentication and verification are significantly more efficient or convenient than others, and some are far more secure than others.
Do a web search for the name of the website or service you wish to protect, as well as the words “two-factor authentication,” “two-step verification,” or their acronyms, to see what options you have.
Apps for Authentication
One of the finest trade-offs between security and convenience of use is free programs like Google Authenticator or LastPass Authenticator.
The software creates a new number code every thirty seconds or so once it is tied to an account. Open your authenticator app and enter the current number for the appropriate service when prompted.
By allowing you to tap a “authenticate” button, you may send your number code directly to the service.
It only takes a few seconds to break, and it’s exceedingly difficult for hackers to get into.
You may end up with many authenticator apps on your phone since certain websites or services require you to use their own app. To make it easier to find them, put them all in the same folder.
Question of the Day
Usually, secret questions are used to retrieve passwords that have been forgotten, and they aren’t very safe. You’re open to social hacking from anyone who clicks “forgot my password” if you choose a personal question, such as your mother’s maiden name.
PIN
Some PINs, like passwords, are more widely used than others, making you vulnerable to brute force attacks. Social hacking is another problem if your PIN is a significant date or number to you, or a niche-famous number from TV/movies like 1701 (a Star Trek reference).
Verification Through Text/SMS
You’ll receive a one-time code by SMS when you create an account.
One of the most ineffective ways to protect yourself is to use SMS messaging. In order to obtain the security SMS codes, fraudsters can trick your provider into moving your number to a new SIM card or provider so that they can receive them instead of you.
Another worry is that if your SMS notifications appear on your phone’s lock screen, someone who has your phone in their possession may be able to view the code without having to unlock it.
Verification of the Service of Instant Messaging (IM)
Because your IM account is more difficult to steal than your phone number, this is more secure than an SMS. Before you’re compromised, a fraudster needs to hijack your IM account first. You should be safe if that IM account is locked with an effective second step.
Because IM notifications appear on your lock screen, someone with your phone could view any code sent to you, just like SMS.
We have so many different ways we can always protect our data online. One is by setting strong passwords on our devices, emails. Enabling of two step verification like OTPs. #DataPrivacyWeekUG pic.twitter.com/yELRZyYhfw
— Mwiza Sophy 🇺🇬🇷🇼 (@MwizaSophy) January 28, 2022Verification Through Email
You’ll receive an email with a one-time code. This is only possible if your email account has previously been hijacked by a criminal. This might be a secure and simple way if your email account is locked down with second-step security.
The code may be displayed without unlocking your phone if your email alerts appear on the lock screen.
Authentication With a USB Security Key
Governments and corporations used to use dedicated USB security keys, but now companies like Yubico are making them available to the general people. Plug the key into a USB port when prompted, and you’ll be able to complete the sign-in process.
Because they can’t be remotely hacked, their unique code changes each time they’re used, and newer models contain a sensor that detects if someone is touching them, security keys are incredibly secure.
You may be able to bypass the password entirely and solely utilize the key as a means of authentication, but this is still uncommon.
A USB stick and some specific software can also be used to produce your own security key. It’s difficult to do, and the best programs for it are expensive.
USB keys, on the other hand, are simple to lose and inconvenient if your USB ports are occupied or awkwardly positioned, and restricting if your security key doesn’t work with your phone, and if your security key doesn’t work with your phone.
To make things easy for yourself, it’s also tempting to leave them plugged into a laptop, tablet, or phone. However, if you lose that gadget, the key will be given to whoever finds it.
What if I Forget to Bring My Authentication Card?
There are usually ways to recover your log-in information if you lose access, whether you’re using an authentication app, fingerprint ID, or some other 2FA or 2SV approach.
When you first sign up for an authentication app, you’ll often be given a code or a collection of codes to write down. If you wish to be able to recover any lost sign-in information, keep these handy.
A PIN or a secret question-style “I forgot my password” system, for example, could be a less secure alternative to a fingerprint ID.
If you lose access to your authentication or verification credentials, any system you sign up for should include instructions on how to retrieve your accounts. Check on them before jumping in if you’re concerned about losing access.
Methods for Stealing Passwords
Phishing
You are tricked into handing over your personal information, login names, and passwords by phishing. This can be done in a variety of ways, and even hardened security experts can be fooled.
Attacks with brute force
Brute force attacks, which are one of the most fundamental types of account hacking, make millions of educated guesses as soon as possible. Before going on to dictionary words and common phrases, they tend to try common passwords first, such as “123456,” “password1,” and “iloveyou,” among many others.
A strong, one-of-a-kind password can protect you from a brute-force assault, but it’s no substitute for 2FA or 2SV.
Breach of data
Your account with a service, organization, or website could be a target for hackers. They can take your username and password from a database and use it to log in from afar. Data breaches may affect anybody, from small websites to giants like Facebook.
Hacking Information through social
In what ways are your social media accounts open? Hacking your social media accounts involves someone looking up public information, such as what you or others on social media list, and using it to break into your accounts.
If your password contains something personal, such as a family member’s or pet’s name, it can be deduced with a little digging.

Easiest Way to Get Your Google Data?
We’ll show you how to export data from Google services in bulk to your computer or other cloud storage services.
Google offers a variety of services, many of which store data that you may export for offline usage, archive on a hard drive, or back up to other cloud storage services.
Google Takeout is the name of this archiving service, and it allows you to export data and files from more than 50 Google-owned sources. Some of them you may be familiar with, such as your Google contacts and Google Drive storage, while others, such as Google News and Hangouts, you may have never heard of, and others, such as Google Fi and Textcube, you may be completely unfamiliar with.
Whether you’ve used them or not, they’ll all show up, so don’t panic if you don’t recognize anything.
Why Would You Want to Save Your Google Data?
There are several reasons to use Google Takeout, given the 50+ services you may export data from. First and foremost, it’s always a good idea to keep vital data in various places.
Despite the fact that Google does not appear to be going out of business anytime soon, it has been known to terminate services in the past, which might mean that your data on such platforms will no longer be available to you. You might potentially try to log on one day and discover that a service’s servers are down in your area due to a network issue, preventing you from accessing your data.
“In the past, Google has been known to terminate services, so your data on those platforms may no longer be accessible.”
🧠Download Everything Google Knows About You🧠
— CyberJunkies🏴☠️ (@DarkCyberSecure) June 14, 2021
Using Google Takeout, you can get to know your data stored with Google Apps. Although it shows all services regardless of you using or not using a service, you can get hints about your data for some services.
What’s the trick? pic.twitter.com/SeJWcOpROcThere are, however, other causes. You might want to use Google Play to download music and books that you’ve purchased. You may import your Google contact list into other services by exporting it. Professional and amateur editors alike might benefit from downloading video and photos in bulk. You can download a big number of items and clear off your online storage if your Google Drive is full.
To summarize, there are a plethora of reasons to use Google Takeout.
Keep in mind that if you use Google Takeout to export data, it will not be removed from Google’s servers, but rather duplicates will be created at the location of your choice.
You can either save your Google data on your computer or transmit it to one of these cloud services directly:
- Box
- Google Drive
- Dropbox
- Microsoft OneDrive
How Do I Get My Google Data?
On both Windows and MacOS, you may use Google Takeout in the same way.
Make sure you’re signed in to your Google account before going to the Google Takeout page at https://takeout.google.com/.
You may not be able to export any data via Takeout if you have a Google account for a business. If this is the case, check with your IT department.
Tick the boxes for each service you want, then click Deselect All.
If you don’t want all of a service’s data (such as Drive’s), select All Data Included and select the data you want.
Depending on the type of data you’re exporting, you can also choose from a variety of file types. Select Multiple formats to do so. If you have the option, check the Advanced settings for each service to see if there is anything that needs to be tweaked. Leave everything set to default if you’re not confident about any of the file types or advanced options.
Click Next step at the bottom of the page after you’ve chosen the data you want to download and in what format.
You’ll be asked to select a file type, a file destination, and a file frequency (for compression).
Click Delivery method to select where the data will be sent, such as a direct download or to another cloud service. Add to Drive, Add to Dropbox, Add to OneDrive, or Add to Box, or Send download link through email (a direct download to your PC or Mac’s storage drive).
You’ll be required to Link Accounts and Create Export if you want to add to a different cloud service, so make sure you have the other service’s login information handy.
You can either do a one-time export or set up a year-long automated export that runs every two months.
You have the option of exporting once a year or every two months for a year.
Then choose the type of file you want to compress (we recommend.zip) and the maximum file size you want to compress (we recommend.zip).
If you choose a lesser file size, the data will be compressed even more, and anything greater than that will be split into many files. If you don’t think you’ll be able to transfer all of your info in one go, this can make life easier.
However, keep in mind that any file larger than 4GB will be extracted using the zip64 format, which older operating systems may not be able to do.
Afterwards, wait for the process to finish by clicking Create Export It could take anywhere from a few seconds to a few days to build your export, depending on how large it is. You can either download it to your PC or upload it to your preferred cloud service after the export is completed.

SpaceX Seeks to Deploy Ruggedized Starlink Satellite Dish for Buildings
The firm is already developing a high-performance ruggedized satellite dish for automobiles, boats, and planes. It now wants to use it for enterprise customers with fixed locations as well.
As reported in PC Mag, SpaceX has filed an application for a new ‘ruggedized’ Starlink dish for buildings that promises to withstand bigger temperature swings. The company says the dish will be built with “features that ruggedize the unit for use in harsh environments”. The company’s application to the FCC requests approval to operate the dishes across the US, including Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.
- SpaceX Seeks to Deploy Ruggedized Starlink Satellite Dish for BuildingsThe company is already working on a high-performance ‘ruggedized’ satellite dish for cars, boats, and planes.
- Now it wants to use it for ‘fixed location’ enterprise customers, too.
- For perspective, the current Starlink dishes for consumers can operate in temperatures from -22 degrees Fahrenheit to +122 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Some HP terminals will be deployed in Occupational/Controlled Environments, especially for enterprise customers.

Is SpaceX Working On A Ruggedized Version Of Its Starlink Dish?
SpaceX is developing a ruggedized version of its Starlink dish that can be used outside of cars, boats, and planes, as well as in hostile environments. On Tuesday, SpaceX applied to the FCC to operate the so-called high-performance Starlink dish.
SpaceX’s Starlink dish is already designed to withstand both freezing and scorching temperatures. However, the business is now seeking FCC clearance for a new high-performance Starlink dish for buildings that can survive even greater temperature changes.
SpaceX filed an application on Friday for the HP type Starlink dish, which has “features that ruggedize the unit for operation in difficult settings,” according to the company.
Liftoff! pic.twitter.com/aZ2vu9BOba
— SpaceX (@SpaceX) January 19, 2022The company stated that granting this application would benefit the public by authorizing a new class of ground-based components for SpaceX’s satellite system that will enhance the range of internet service capabilities available throughout the United States, especially in challenging environments where ruggedization is appropriate.
SpaceX filed a similar application in August for a ruggedized Starlink dish that can deliver high-speed internet in harsh situations. The proposal, which is still awaiting FCC approval, only asked for the devices to be operated on moving vehicles like planes, boats, and cars.
Is Starlink Working on a Next-generation Dish?
Other FCC applications from the company have also indicated the company is working on another next-generation Starlink dish that will use a smaller antenna than the current model.
A ruggedized dish would be good news for anyone worried about their Starlink dish breaking in extremely hot or cold wintry weather. But it remains unclear how much the dish would cost when the current model goes for $499.
On the other hand, Friday’s proposal asks for permission to use the ruggedized Starlink dishes as fixed Earth stations, which means they’d be positioned outside a structure as permanent equipment.
To put things in perspective, the existing Starlink consumer dishes can operate in temperatures ranging from -22 to +122 degrees Fahrenheit. Any snow that falls on the dish might also be melted by the equipment.
The next high-performance dish is expected to push climate resilience to new heights.
“In comparison to other user terminals SpaceX Services has been authorized to deploy, the HP model has been ruggedized to handle harsher environments,” according to the company. “For example, it will be able to continue cooperating at greater extremes of heat and cold will have improved snow/ice melt capabilities, and will withstand a greater number of thermal cycles.”
The dish will also be targeted at enterprise buyers, such as corporations or research facilities, according to the company.
“Some HP terminals, particularly for enterprise customers, will be implemented in Occupational/Controlled Environments. Furthermore, numerous installations will be created in regions that are off-limits to the general public.
In an addendum to its application, they state that “certain HP terminals will likely be deployed in General Population/Uncontrolled Environments as well.”
The attachment adds that the company plans on installing the ruggedized dishes at customer premises using only qualified personnel. SpaceX’s application to the FCC requests approval to operate the new dishes across the US, including in Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.

The volatility of all cryptocurrencies is, without a doubt, the most significant issue. It’s what prevents a lot of large corporations and small enterprises from using this mode of payment. However, stablecoins could be the answer. “Stablecoins are virtual money,” says Bob Mason. The values are pegged to traditional assets, unlike cryptos like Bitcoin (BTC) and Litecoin (LTC). Such a currency might be the US dollar, as with USD Tether (USDT), or even gold if the Paxos Gold (PAXG) stablecoin has a gold backing.” If this concept succeeds, other digital currencies could follow suit.

Samsung Is Set To Reveal Something Epic At The Galaxy Unpacked Event on Feb 9
The date for Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event has been set. Samsung has stated that on Feb. 9 at 10 a.m. ET/7 a.m. PT, the company will livestream something amazing on its website. Let’s get this party started. Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S22, its next flagship series. We’re expected to see three models, starting with a base-model Galaxy S22 and ending with a performance-tier Ultra model with a dockable S Pen for those who miss the Note form-factor, as we have in previous years. The Galaxy S22 Plus is another option if you want a high-performance phone without the stylus.
So far, we’ve read that the Samsung Galaxy S22 will launch with a 6.01-inch display, somewhat smaller than its predecessors, and that the Galaxy S22 Plus will have a 6.55-inch display.
The Galaxy S22 Ultra would have the largest display of the three, measuring 6.81 inches, and would be perfect for replacing the Note.
Samsung teased the Galaxy S22 Ultra last week, and it is expected to have the largest battery of the three models.
The Ultra is expected to contain a 5,000 mAh battery, while the S22 and S22 Plus are expected to have 3,800 and 4,000 mAh batteries, accordingly.
Expect the rear-facing camera array to differ slightly from previous Galaxy handsets in terms of appearance.
A 108-megapixel wide-angle primary camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 10x magnification, and a second 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 3X zoom could all be found on the back camera. The Galaxy S22 Ultra’s fifth circle is most likely a laser autofocus sensor.
It’s still unclear what’s powering those cameras and the electronics within.
So far, we’ve presumed that the Galaxy S22 models sold in the United States would be powered by Qualcomm’s brand new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU, as is the industry standard for Android flagships.
Samsung, on the other hand, has just revealed the Exynos 2200 chip, the first smartphone processor featuring AMD graphics (albeit Exynos processors are normally reserved for international handsets).
You won’t have to wait long to learn about Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones. Tune in on Feb. 9.
Join us as we break the rules to set the epic standard at #SamsungUnpacked, February 9, 2022.

International Space Station Operations Extended Until 2030
The White House greenlights another eight years of the floating laboratory
The International Space Station will continue orbiting Earth through at least 2030, NASA has announced. The White House “has committed to continuing station operations” for the next eight years, says NASA’s top official. Dating back to 1998, when its first modular component launched, the microgravity laboratory has hosted 251 individuals from 19 countries, maintaining a continuous human presence in low Earth orbit since November 2000. A 2018 draft budget by the Trump administration proposed an end to funding for the satellite in 2025, but it will now be around until at least 2030. In 2014, President Obama authorized another 10 years of ISS operations, extending the mission to 2024, four years longer than previously planned. “The United States’ continued participation on the ISS will enhance innovation and competitiveness,” Nelson said, “as well as advance the research and technology necessary to send the first woman and first person of color to the Moon under NASA’s Artemis program and pave the way for sending the first humans to Mars.”

- “Extending operations through 2030, according to NASA, will “continue another productive decade of research advancement” and facilitate the transition to commercial space stations in the late 2020s.
NASA Administrator Bill Nelson announced in a statement that the White House “has committed to continuing station operations” for the next eight years, which involves collaboration with international partners in Canada (CSA), Europe (ESA), Japan (JAXA), and Russia (Roscosmos).
Nelson stated that the International Space Station is a shining example of peaceful international scientific collaboration that has yielded great scientific, educational, and technological advances to benefit humanity for more than twenty years.
The microgravity laboratory has housed 251 people from 19 countries since its first modular component launched in 1998, and has maintained a continuous human presence in low Earth orbit since November 2000.
He also said that the United States’ continued participation in the International Space Station will enhance innovation and competitiveness, as well as advance the research and technology required to send the first woman and first person of color to the Moon under NASA’s Artemis initiative and lay the groundwork for sending the first people to Mars.
However, in recent years, its future has remained a mystery. President Barack Obama renewed the ISS mission for another ten years in 2014, extending the program to 2024, four years longer than originally planned. The Trump administration proposed ending financing for the satellite in 2025 in its 2018 draught budget, but it will now be funded until at least 2030.
According to NASA, extending operations until 2030 will “continue another productive decade of research advancement” and ease the transition to commercial space stations in the late 2020s.

Google Pixel Watch Launch Expected In May 2022
Jon Prosser posted on Twitter that Google is planning on launching the Pixel Watch on May 26, a date that aligns with the company’s I/O developer conference.
Leaks and rumors suggest it will be a companion device to Google’s smartphones. In any case, most of what we think we know about the Pixel Watch is based on speculation and rumor, so this Android user is keeping his excitement in check.
- Leaker Jon Prosser posted on Twitter that Google is planning on launching the Pixel Watch on May 26, a date that aligns with the company’s I/O developer conference.
- He later corrected the timeline, claiming the watch had been delayed to Q1 2022.
- Anything is possible, but leaks and rumours suggest the wearable will be a companion device to Google’s smartphones.
- As for specs, the rumoured wearable could be powered by a Samsung Exynos chip and support Google Assistant, based on a report from 9to5Google that claims to have found a PIXEL_EXPERIENCE_WATCH feature tag within a Google app.
- We don’t know how much the watch will cost, but a recent Business Insider report, corroborated by The Verge, claims it will be more expensive than a Fitbit and priced to compete against the Apple Watch.
Google’s upcoming Pixel smartwatch has been the subject of rumours for more than a year, and while we know basic specifics about the device, no precise release date has been suggested. That has now changed.
Google is aiming to release the Pixel Watch on May 26, according to Twitter leaker Jon Prosser, which coincides with the company’s I/O developer conference.
While Google hasn’t confirmed the release date, let alone the existence of a Pixel Watch, this latest leak should reassure Android users waiting for a true Apple Watch competitor because, as Prosser points out, this is the “first we’ve seen a set date on the device behind the scenes.” Furthermore, Google’s I/O 2022 conference, which took place from May 18 to 20 last year, would be a logical launchpad given that it’s where Google announced Wear OS 3, the most mea ningful update to its watch OS in a long itme.
Prosser previously stated that the watch would be unveiled alongside the Pixel 6 in October, but cautioned that the date was subject to change. Later, he clarified the schedule, indicating that the watch would be released in Q1 2022. The device is now expected to arrive in Q2.
After completing its acquisition of Fitbit last year, there was a lot of conjecture about how Google will handle smartwatches. It was unclear whether Google would sell a Pixel-branded device or follow Nest’s lead and rebrand its smartwatch division as Fitbit. It’s possible that the wearable will be a companion gadget to Google’s smartphones, but leaks and rumors suggest otherwise.
There have been rumors circulating about a Google smartwatch for a long time, and while the company has denied them in the past, this could be the time. According to a December story, the device’s codename is “Rohan,” and it will have a spherical face (like basically every other Android smartwatch). It is touted to include basic fitness tracking, such as step counts and heart rate monitoring, as well as additional Fitbit-like functions.
According to a report from 9to5Google, the suspected wearable could be powered by a Samsung Exynos chip and support Google Assistant, based on the discovery of a “PIXEL EXPERIENCE WATCH” feature tag within a Google app.
It’s natural to expect that Google would turn to Qualcomm, but keep in mind that Google cooperated with Samsung to help it solve its horrifically failing wearable OS. We wouldn’t be shocked if this collaboration included the use of each other’s hardware. If previous leaks are to be believed, the device has already been seen. Prosser claimed to have official advertising photographs on his YouTube channel late last year. They depict a watch with a circular shape and an almost bezel-free watch face that waterfalls at the edges, similar to the one seen in April renders.
We are not sure how much the watch will cost, but according to a recent Business Insider rumor backed up by The Verge, it will cost more than a Fitbit and will be priced to compete with the Apple Watch.
And, like the Apple Watch, the Pixel Watch (if that’s what it’s called) will require daily charging.
In any event, much of what we think we know about the Pixel Watch is based on rumor and supposition.

I’m hearing that Google is planning on launching it on Thursday, May 26th — over year since we leaked it.
This is the first we’ve seen a set date on the device behind the scenes.

Following recent attacks on an oil plant and an airport, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) decided over the weekend to prohibit the use of recreational drones and light-sport aircraft.
The UAE Ministry of Interior confirmed the ban on Saturday, citing “recent misuse, such as not confining the practice of these sports to the regions stated in the user permits and trespassing into places where these types of activities are prohibited,” according to The Verge.
The ban went into effect on Sunday.
According to APNews, Yemen’s Houthi rebels used drones equipped with explosives to target an oil complex in Abu Dhabi.
Three transport tankers were set on fire, three individuals were killed, and six more were injured in the incident.
A second drone strike took place at Abu Dhabi International Airport, causing a fire but “no substantial damage.”
“We stand behind our Emirati friends against all threats to their territory,” said US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, as the US works with the UAE on a response to the incident.
In the meantime, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the attacks at the two facilities were “prohibited by international law,” but he hopes the situation does not worsen.
By prohibiting the use of drones, the UAE Ministry of Interior should be able to respond more promptly to future attacks, as any drones observed in the air are now unlawful.
